Description
Blue Nordmann Fir cones - The cones are 10-20cms long and 4-5cms broad, with about 150 - 200 scales. Each scale has an exserted bract and two winged seeds. They disintegrate when mature to disperse the seed.
The leaves are 1.8 - 3.5 cms long and 2mm wide, needle-like and flattened. The tip is usually blunt. Colouring is glossy dark green above with two blue-white bands of stomata below.
The cones provide an important food source for many small birds through the winter season.
