Description
The magnificent domed Clydeport Building (formerly Clyde Navigation Trust Building) is a fine example of the work of Glasgow Architect Sir John J. Burnett, A.R.S.A.
It was built 1882-86 and extended 1905-08 in an Italianate Baroque style.
Sculptor Albert Hodge's figures from ancient mythology of Demeter Leading a Bull and Amphitrite with Seahorses feature either side of the dome.
Internally, the rooms are finely appointed with French walnut panelling, mosaic flooring and gold leaf ornamentation.
Feature windows contain Stephen Adam stained glass.
The Trust, established by Act of Parliament in 1858, brought city fathers, shipbuilders, merchants and industrialists together to develop and manage the river and its trade.
The building is now A-listed and provides office premises for Peel Property, Peel Ports - Clydeport and other organisations.
