The common foxglove (Digitalis purpurea) is the best known species. It is a biennial and often grown as an ornamental plant due to the vivid flowers, which range in colour from purple tints through pink and white. The flowers can also have various marks and spottings. Foxglove has medicinal uses but is also very toxic to humans and animals.
