The narrow cobblestoned road is bounded on one side by the old town Telfer Wall and by old tenement buildings on the other side. George Heriot's school lies beyond the wall and has an arched service entrance halfway along.
Vehicular access is restricted but, if walking, this scenic and historical route connects to the Vennel then down to the Grassmarket.
