Description
The speckled wood butterfly can be seen in woodland, scrub and suburbia. It is particularly fond of the dappled shade in woodland clearings, paths or edges. In scrubby areas it will skulk around lower regions of taller bushes or even large rocks. The males will often sit in a beam of sunlight and defend territory from any intruders. Usually, he will return to the same spot.
