View of St. Petri (St. Peter's Church) from Bergstrasse (Mountain Road). It stands 9.4 meters above sea level the highest point of Hamburg-Alstadt.
Only seven years after the great fire in 1842, the Gothic church was rebuilt by architects Alexis de Chateauneuf and Hermann Felsenfest in its previous location.
The 132 meter high church tower has 544 steps up to a height of 123 meters where portholes offer a good view over the city. The tower with its copper spire designed by Johann Maack was finished in 1878.
