Description
Wolves (Canis lupus) are large carnivores in the dog family (Canidae). They can live in a variety of habitats ranging from forests, mountains, deserts and swamps. Most wolves have home ranges in forested regions that contain prey. Wolves are social animals that are often found in packs. A typical wolf pack has a dominant alpha male and alpha female breeding pair, subadult and juvenile offspring, and other subordinate adults.
Wolves have historically been misjudged, persecuted, and eradicated from much of their historical range. Wolves generally avoid people and should be viewed as an important component of a healthy environment.
Wolves figure prominently in the mythology of nearly every Native American tribe. In most Native cultures throughout Eurasia and North America, Wolf is considered a medicine being associated with courage, strength, loyalty, and success at hunting.
Of all land animals, the Wolf has the strongest supernatural powers.
