Artist's Description

View of 'The Scotsman' Building, North Bridge, Edinburgh, Scotland.
'The Scotsman' newspaper published its first issue on 25 January 1817.
Having outgrown its birthplace at 347 High Street, 'The Scotsman' moved to new custom-built premises on Cockburn Street in the early 1860s.
The redevelopment of Edinburgh's North Bridge in 1899 provided an opportunity for 'The Scotsman' to build one of the most magnificent newspaper headquarters in the world.
The move to the custom-built premises on Edinburgh's North Bridge in 1905. It was designed by Dunn & Findlay and cost £500,000 (around £55 million today).
The management offices on the upper floors had marble pillars, walnut panelling and chandeliers. The lower levels were equipped with modern printing presses, a tailor-made foundry and wire links to the wider world.
The building is now a hotel.
