Description
East Mills Bridge carries the road from Blinkbonny over the Water of Leith to Currie and SW of Juniper Green, Edinburgh. The bridge also crosses an old railway route which now forms part of the Water of Leith walkway.
The bridge name is associated with an old grain mill.
Many mills (some dating from the 1600's) were sited along the Water of Leith producing cloth, felt, paper/board, snuff and leather. Most have now been demolished to make way for new housing. A few remnants remain by the water such as waterwheel pits, lades, sluice and weirs.
