Description
This iconic clock has towered over Edinburgh's Waverley Station since 1902.
Originally, The North British Station Hotel, the clock has almost never run on time. It is set 3 minutes ahead to allow commuters to catch their train on time. However, it does align with Greenwich Mean Time once a year, on the 31 of December - New Year's Eve (Hogmanay, as its locally known).
The original clock was crafted by Hamilton & Inches, a luxury Edinburgh-based jeweller with a Royal Warrant, and consists of four clock faces, each 13ft in diameter.
The tower itself was designed by William Hamilton Beattie towards the end of the 19th century, and stands 195ft from roof level to tip.
