Description
Dunbar’s geological history is varied. There are different types of rock here, all more than 300 million years old, including an array of sedimentary rocks that record the changing climate as Scotland drifted northwards across the Equator.
Natural processes have worn away the over-lying rock, ice sheets have scraped across the landscape and the sea has risen and fallen. This has created a beautiful and varied landscape.
The shoreline is part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of its geology and is also a Geological Conservation Review site.
