Description
Located in the Vennel opposite Brown's Place, Edinburgh, this stone archway is believed to be the rear entrance leading to the Graham Street Synagogue which was in use from 1898 to 1932.
It was originally the Greyfriars Free Church and converted/altered in 1897 to 1898.
The architect for the reconstruction was W. N. Thomson, Leith.
The consecration of the new Synagogue was by the Very Rev. Dr Adler, Chief Rabbi, from London.
It closed in 1932 and the Edinburgh Hebrew Congregation moved to a new Synagogue in Salisbury Road.
The old buildings in Graham Street are long demolished and the area is now used by the Edinburgh College of Art.
