Description
The Sakurada-Mon Gate is one of the few castle gates with a Masugata (rectangular space between the inner and outer gates) intact. In 1860, the chief minister was assassinated outside the gate by samurai.
It was a famous and dramatic episode in Japanese history.
The current Imperial Palace (Kōkyo) is located on the former site of an Edo Castle, it is surrounded by a large park area with moats and massive stone walls in the centre of Tokyo, Japan. It is the residence of Japan's Imperial family.
